Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Muhammad Saleem Baig on Tuesday visited Regional Office Sukkur.
In-charge Regional Office Nisar Ahmed Panwar briefed the chairman on operational activities, licensing, enforcement and recovery status and drive against illegal Indian DTH/ channels.
The PEMRA chief was also briefed about the ongoing crackdown being carried out by PEMRA field staff in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies, including Federal Investigation Agency, Customs Intelligence, police and Rangers, on the illegal Indian DTH in the country.
It was shared that a large number of illegal equipment, including 113 C-Line receivers, 23 LNBs, 23 dish antennas, 98 seal bags of antennas and on CPU, had been seized.
The chairman appreciated PEMRA field staff and directed it to continue the crackdown and enforcement drive more effectively against sale/purchase of illegal Indian DTH.
He stressed upon strict compliance of orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, saying illegal proliferation of Indian DTH was not only damaging the social, cultural and religious values of the society but also causing huge financial loss to the country’s exchequer.
During the visit, the chairman also held meeting with the representatives of the cable operators of Sukkur and asked them to strictly comply with the orders of the Supreme Court.
He said that cable operators should play their role in creating awareness among the masses about dam fund, Clean Green Pakistan and traffic laws. Moreover, he said fair demands of cable TV operators would be fulfilled.
While talking to officials at Regional Office Sukkur, Saleem Baig asked them to ensure an open door policy for regular communication with all stakeholders and adopt all possible means for imparting facilitation and support to the licensees within the ambit of law by keeping PEMRA’s interest supreme. He was accompanied by Director General Operation Muhammad Farooq, General Manager Operations Muhammad Tahir and Secretary to the Authority Fakhar-ud-Din Mughal.
