LAHORE: Former prime minister Shahid Khakan Abbassi was allowed on Friday by the Lahore High Court(LHC) to contest election from NA-57 (Murree).
A two-member bench of LHC headed by Justice Mazahir Ali accepted Abbasi’s plea against appellate tribunal Rawalpindi’s decision of disqualifying him for life time.
The bench of LHC dismissed the election tribunal’s decision and allowed Abbasi to contest election from his home constituency.
Earlier this week, the election tribunal Rawalpindi rejected nomination papers of PML-N leader saying that he concealed the facts and withheld the information from voters. However, the verdict said that Abbasi does not meet the requirements under Article 62(1)(f) ,hence he was disqualified for life time.
After the appellate tribunal’s decision , Abbasi expressed grave concern and filled plea in LHC which on Friday dismissed the decision of appellate tribunal and allowed former prime minister to contest election from his home constituency NA-57 (Murree).
