LAHORE: Masroor Nawaz Jhangvi, Member of Punjab Assembly from Jhang PP-78, was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday.
Lahore High Court Judge Atir Mahmood heard the petition regarding the disqualification of Masroor Nawaz Jhangvi who is a cleric elected to the Punjab Assembly.
Jhangvi won the PP-78 by-elections last year.
Muzaffar Abbas filed the petition against Jhangvi and claims that the accused, son of assassinated Haq Nawaz Jhangvi, founder of the Sipah-i-Sahaba, has 17 cases registered against him.
Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, a banned terrorist organisation, is named after Masroor’s father.
Jhangvi also has his name on the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, which is a list of people suspected of militant ties.
A response from the Election Commission of Pakistan has been summoned over the matter.
