ISLAMABAD: A one-day awareness seminar titled ‘The Social Issues of eunuchs in Pakistan and their Possible Solutions’ was organised by the National Council of Social Welfare (NCSW).
NCSW Chairman Nadeem Shafiq Malik chaired the seminar – which was attended by representatives of the Civil Society, various Non-governmental organisations (NGO), students and other stakeholders.
The chairman – in his presidential address – said that Islam is the religion of humanity and its message is clear that all humans are equal.He said that those societies are strong whose family system is strong.
“It is very unfortunate that our behaviour and attitude towards eunuchs is not acceptable,” he said and added, “We have to change our thoughts as our constitution protects the basic human rights of all the citizens of Pakistan.”
Malik said that in the light of the Supreme Court’s judgment, the rights of provision of Computerised-National Identity Card (CNIC), right to vote and inherit property are given to them –in order to protect these rights, a bill is also under consideration.
“We are hopeful that after passing of this bill their basic rights such as education and employment will be protected,” Malik concluded.
