The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday ordered the Lahore district election commissioner to personally deliver the second notice to Khadim Hussain Rizvi in a case regarding registration and funding of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
A five-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Sardar Raza Khan, heard the case. The commission noted that neither Rizvi, who was taken into protective custody last week, nor his counsel appeared for the hearing. The ECP issued another notice to the TLP chief and instructed the Lahore district election commissioner to ensure that the orders are complied with. The case was later adjourned till December 5. The case against TLP was initiated after the Supreme Court lambasted the ECP earlier this month for registering a party that had disrupted life in the twin cities last year. The top court had expressed surprise that the party had been registered with a National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) by an individual residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
