An Islamabad accountability court, on Tuesday, extended the transit remand for former Punjab chief minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif till November 10 in the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case.
Shehbaz Sharif was produced before the court by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday after his previous seven-day remand had ended. NAB requrested for an extension in his transit remand till November 12 stating that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president was scheduled to attend a National Assembly session on November 9. Shehbaz, however, requested the court to allow extension till November 10. Accepting the PML-N president’s plea, the court extended transit remand till the requested date. During the hearing, Shehbaz told the court that he had been investigated for over a month now but not even a single penny’s worth of corruption against him could be proven.
Earlier on October 5, the PML-N president was arrested in the Ashiana Housing Scheme case by NAB.
After the hearing, Shehbaz walked over to Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik’s courtroom to meet his brother, deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The two brothers also talked to other PML-N leaders briefly. Nawaz was appearing in court in the Flagship reference case.
