LAHORE: An anti-corruption tribunal of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed one year ban on cricketer Shahzaib Hasan for his involvement in spot-fixing during the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Shahzaib, who was representing Karachi Kings in PSL 2, was found guilty of violating three clauses of PCB’s code of conduct. He was also fined with Rs 1 million by the tribunal.
“Hasan has been banned for one year and fined one million rupees on one charge and we have requested for more action against him on inducing other players for fixing,” PCB’s legal adviser Taffazul Rizvi said.
The charges against Shahzaib include luring cricketers into the scam, not reporting approaches by the bookies, and hiding information regarding his contacts with the bookies.
The 28-year old opener was suspended by the PCB on March 18, 2017 over allegations of spot-fixing during the tournament. The tribunal heard the case against Shahzaib and reserved its verdict on January 31.
The tribunal had already handed Islamabad United openers Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan five-year ban last year over the same charges.
Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan and all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz were also handed ban for twelve and two months, respectively.
However, Former Pakistan opener Nasir Jamshed’s case is still ongoing.
