ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and 64 lawmakers remained absent from the 37th National Assembly session.
According to Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) report – also published on the National Assembly website – only 168 (49%) lawmakers attended nine sittings on average.
Besides Nawaz, lawmakers belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the National Party (NP) and the Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP) were absent.
Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Shah was also absent from five sittings of the session.The report further revealed that attendance remained particularly low in a number of sittings with three meetings adjourned due to lack of quorum.
It went on to add that the actual attendance was even lower on average – with 34 (10%) lawmakers present at the outset of each sitting and 54 (15%) at the adjournment.
