The Pakistan Business Council’s Center of Excellence in Responsible Business (CERB), hosted a round table conference on “Businesses and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Value Creation & Sustainability”, with an aim to mobilise the private sector to transform their existing business practices for better socio-economic outcomes.
According to a press release issued by the council, the session was attended by diverse business sectors, including the FMCGs, Pharmaceutical, Banking, Engineering and Industrial product companies.
In the conference, the participants were briefed about how SDGs could lead to value addition and business sustainability. It was said that when United Nations set out its 2030 agenda for SDGs, not only government of 193 countries, but various companies were also called upon to highlight the importance for them to align their businesses to SDGs, for an overall inclusive growth.
CERB disclosed the findings of its recent base line survey of practices among PBC member companies on “Transforming Business Culture” stating that whereas 97% of the respondent companies have knowledge of SDGs, only 24% have mapped, aligned, and embedded corporate strategies with the SDGs.
